CGFNS Opens Exam Center in Abuja, Nigeria for September 21 and November 9, 2005 exams

PHILADELPHIA, PA — APRIL 11, 2005 (Updated Sept. 20, 2005) — The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) is pleased to announce that it is opening an exam center in Abuja, Nigeria to conduct its Qualifying Exam for nurses in Nigeria. The exam center will be open for the September 21 and November 9, 2005, exams. The deadline for applying for the November 9, 2005 exam in Abuja is October 5, 2005.

CGFNS administers its Qualifying Exam four times each year for nurses educated outside the United States who wish to practice nursing in the United States. The exams are offered at over 55 locations worldwide in March, July, September and November. The September exam will be administered for the first time in Abuja, Nigeria. Other international locations for the September exam include: Copenhagen, Denmark; Cochin, India; and Cebu City, Philippines. The September exam will also be administered in the United States at the following locations: Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; Miami, FL; and New York, NY.

The Qualifying Exam is designed for first-level, general nurses educated outside the United States, who wish to become licensed in the United States. Forty U.S. states require that foreign-educated nurses pass the CGFNS Qualifying ExamSM before they will be authorized to sit for the NCLEX-RN® examination, (the U.S. national licensure exam for registered nurses).
