What is the Credential Verification Service for New York State (CVS-NY)?

The state of New York requires that if you are applying for licensure as a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, physical therapist, physical therapy assistant, occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant in the state of New York, you must have your educational and licensure credentials verified by CGFNS International Credential Verification Service for New York State (CVS).

How long does the process take?

It depends on the response time of the school(s) and license authority(if applicable). We give your school or licensing authority a maximum of 6 months to submit the required documents. After the six month period has expired, the report is issued within 45 business days.

Once the report is issued, does that mean I am approved?

No. CGFNS International only verifies the authenticity of the documents. The documents are then forwarded to and evaluated by the New York State Education Department in Albany, NY. The New York State Education Department will take approximately 4 to 6 weeks to contact you.

I have gone through other CGFNS International services, can the same documents be used for CVS-NY?

No. The Comparative Education Department requires that CGFNS International request new copies of your transcript(s) and a new validation of your initial foreign license (if applicable).

Can I ask my school and license authority to send you the required documents?

No. All requests for official documents must come directly from CGFNS International.

If there is a fee for the transcript or license, do I need to pay it?

No. If there is a fee, CGFNS International will pay it.

My school is closed, can I submit the required documents?

No. CGFNS International will obtain the documents from school archives or the license authority. If documents are still unattainable, CGFNS International will notify the New York State Education Department in Albany, NY and let them make the determination. CGFNS International will never accept documents from an applicant as verifiable.

Do I need to request verification of my Certification Program Certificate for New York?

No. CGFNS International will include a certification statement, if applicable, as part of your report.
