VisaScreen Statistical Data

The CGFNS/ICHP VisaScreen program is designed to meet the requirements of Section 343 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. Section 343 requires that certain non-U.S. educated healthcare professionals successfully complete a screening program prior to receiving a permanent or temporary occupational visa, including Trade NAFTA status. This includes Clinical Laboratory Technicians (Medical Technicians), Clinical Laboratory Scientists (Medical Technologists), Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists, Registered Nurses, Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists.

The Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS International) was named in the 1996 legislation as an organization qualified to offer this federal screening program. In response to this legislation, CGFNS created a new division, the International Commission on Healthcare Professions (ICHP), which administers VisaScreen.
