2021 World Leprosy Day

January 31, 2021

On World Leprosy Day 2021, CGFNS International recognizes the important role nurses play, from helping people access early treatment to fighting the stigma and consequences surrounding this age-old disease. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are still some 200,000 new cases diagnosed worldwide each year, with millions of people living with some form of disability as a result of leprosy. Accompanying a disability, persons affected by Leprosy face discrimination, and social and economic consequences. In some areas of the world, outdated laws make leprosy grounds for divorce and can restrict and prevent individuals with the disease from participating in public life and other activities.

This year, CGFNS joins the international community to help spread the word that Leprosy Is Curable, and joins the fight to End Stigma and advocate for Mental Wellbeing of personas affected by leprosy.
