Human Rights Day 2020
December 10, 2020
December 10th marks the United Nation’s Human Rights Day in celebration of the day the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNDR), which proclaims the inalienable rights everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
The theme for Human Rights Day in 2020 relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights are central to recovery efforts. Reaching our common global goals is only possible if we create equal opportunities for all and address the failures exposed and exploited by COVID-19 including for nurses, healthcare professionals and all essential workers at the frontlines of the pandemic.
As an NGO with consultative status to the United Nations, we take pride in working closely with a network of governments, policy makers, and transnational NGOs to serve the international community, specifically migrating healthcare professionals and the patients they treat, as we strive to ensure their inalienable human rights and dignity are protected across borders as we build a greater, healthier future for generations to come. We do this in part by ensuring that the experience and training of migrating health professionals is captured accurately and understood in context, as well as by advocating for ethical recruitment of these professionals through our Alliance for Ethical International Recruitment Practices division.
On 10 December, CGFNS International, along with our international partners, reaffirm the importance of human rights in re-building the world we want, the need for global solidarity, as well as our interconnectedness and shared humanity.
