World Patient Safety Day

Did you know that 4 out of 10 patients are harmed in primary and ambulatory settings, and 80% of harm in those settings can be avoided? No one should be harmed during healthcare, which is why today is designated World Patient Safety Day by the WHO.

On the first-ever World Patient Safety Day on 17 September 2019, WHO launched a global campaign to create awareness of patient safety and urge people to show their commitment to making healthcare safer. The theme for 2020 is Health Worker Safety: A Priority for Patient Safety.

This theme is especially important to us. Since 1977, CGFNS has ensured patient safety by assessing the credentials of international health workers and advocating for their ethical recruitment and safe migration. As the COVID-19 pandemic has illuminated numerous risks faced by health workers worldwide and strained our health systems, CGFNS remains committed to the idea that safe health workers are a prerequisite for patient safety.
